Tony Ang

Having graduated from Manjusri Secondary School, Ang Ting Leong has started learning the dizi at the age of thirteen from Mr. Ng Kok Tsai. He later came under the tutelage of Mr. Phang Thean Siong, presently a dizi performer of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra. Since his school days, he has been joining various Chinese Orchestras, often taking up the role of lead performer and soloist.

He had also followed the entourage of orchestras representing Singapore to various countries, amidst which includes Hong Kong, Taiwan, Egypt, Perth , Malaysia and Beijing. He has also been actively involved in several performances for the Singapore Arts Festival.

Ting Leong has also seeked the guidance of renowned dizi maestros such as Mr. Yu Xun Fa, Mr. Dai Ya and Mr. Li Zheng which enabled him to master different dizi techniques. Besides playing the dizi, Ting Leong has also performed solo pieces for the Pan-flute, Xiao , Xun , Bawu and other woodwind instruments.

In 1995, Ting Leong clinched the distinction award for the dizi open category in the 10th National Music Competition. Having taking up the position of the dizi Instructor of Cheng San Community Club Chinese Orchestra in 1996, he have groomed many students who brought their skills to a greater heights. In the same year, the ensemble in which he participated, won the second prize in the National Music Competition.

In 2000, the ensemble again won a second prize in the National Music Competition for open category.

Presently, he is a freelance musician of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra and also the dizi instructor for many schools.
